Our First Taste of Homeschooling, September 3, 2017

Excited but scared...that has always been how we feel of Kenzi's homeschooling.  Excited for new experiences but scared of unfavorable outcome.  The possibilities are just so great that I feel I will never really gonna be ready for it no matter how much planning and overthinking I do. I tried preparing lesson plan and making the schedule but whatever I come up with I always think that it is not enough.

So I decided that we will just take it one step at a time.  Take each mistake as a lesson and the good times an inspiration.  The most important here is to focus on our goal of giving our child fun and most efficient way of learning and development in a manner of which she will be closer to God.

First off, is assigning her to-do list.  My husband and I agreed that we will not give her schedule of things to do, rather we will prepare checklist for her to complete each day.  We would like to see how she would manage her time in completing all task without putting too much pressure on her (yet).  I have noticed my child who is someone who wants to finish all given tasks to her so she is free to do anything she wants.  We would like to see that in her during homeschooling.

Thus, the Check-Me Notebook is born in The Veloso household.

Kenzi helped in decorating it, to add a touch of her personality.

Checklist is divided per subject per day with the addition of Productive Free time at the end.  Productive Free Time is allotted mostly on reminding her to help on household chores and giving her task that may boost her imagination and creativeness.  This part is what she loves the most.

Coming home to this..can't resist to make everything so girly, anak! :) #ribbon

We definitely survived the first day of homeschooling with no dramas.  Whew!

After dinner, we discussed all things she did and made sure she understood the topics.  I have learned that she is more likely to answer properly during discussion if it is done in friendly talk manner.  She was on her study chair and I asked her what she had learned that day.  Downhearted, she responded with "You are scaring me, Mommy. :( "

I changed the tone of my voice, making it more sound like a friendly chit-chat and allowed her to roam around and do what she wants, except of course playing.  She was able to answer my questions properly and it seems that she is enjoying the discussion.

Drawing was one of the things she did while discussing her lessons.

I am continuously learning from long-time parents of homeschoolers.  Aimlessly searching the Internet for ideas that may suit my daughter's way of learning.  And surprisingly, I love doing it.

This is just the beginning and I love my child's first day remark in regard to homeschooling...."I like homeschooling, Mommy!"  Hopefully, it will never change, anak!  Hopefully!
